Edward Charlton was born in Bellingham in Northumberland, probably son of Thomas. He was married to Hannah Short nee Coats by special licence on 31/12/1768 at Whitfield, Northumberland. They produced three children all baptised at Ninebanks, Northumberland, Edward b1771, Joseph b1774 and George b1776. They then moved over the Pennines to Walton, Cumberland and produced another three sons, Thomas b1778, William b1783 and John b1785. Edward Snr died 27/03/1804 and Hannah two days later, both at Guards Hill. They are both interred at Walton, Cumberland along with their son William who died 23/04/1804. Son, Joseph Charlton married Margaret Hetherington 22/12/1804 in Walton, Cumberland. Son, John Charlton married Jane Hetherington 26/11/1808 also in Walton. Joseph & Margaret are both interred at Walton, March ? 1850 and January 26th 1837 respectively. Their daughter named Margaret who died in infancy is buried with them.
